Lara Belkin

Lara Belkin received her BA from Dartmouth College and her JD from Fordham Law School. She also holds an LLM in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School. Lara went to law school knowing that she wanted to work on behalf of those marginalized by the criminal justice system, and interned at the Innocence Project, Office of the Appellate Defender and Legal Aid Prisoners’ Rights Project. After graduating, she clerked on the Connecticut State Supreme Court and then spent eight years as a public defender at Bronx Legal Aid, representing hundreds of clients on misdemeanor and felony cases. After taking time off to cook professionally and obtain her LLM, Lara returned to Bronx Legal Aid for three years before deciding that she could more effectively help her clients by expanding her practice into civil rights law. Lara currently works as an Associate Attorney in Shulman & Hill’s Civil Rights Division.
