Local knowledge matters. Oyster Bay has unique road patterns, school zones, and commercial corridors where taxi traffic is common. We draw on our extensive knowledge of the local area to make your claim as strong as possible.
We act quickly to secure video from storefronts, buses, and traffic cameras before it is overwritten. Our Oyster Bay taxi accident attorney will coordinate with nearby medical providers and document your treatment to support both no-fault and liability claims.
You get clear communication at every step. Our personal injury lawyers in Oyster Bay explain your options, weigh settlement offers, and prepare for litigation when needed. Our goal is to get a settlement that covers what you’ve lost and provides what you will need going forward.
What Makes Taxi Accident Claims Different
Taxi cases often involve commercial policies and dispatch bases. This can add more parties and coverage layers to your case than a typical fender bender case between private motorists.
New York’s Vehicle and Traffic Law may allow you to hold a vehicle’s owner liable for an accident caused by a driver’s negligence. Maintenance contractors and garages may also share fault if poor upkeep contributed to the crash.
Cab companies may have higher coverage limits, but their insurers will work hard to try to limit what you receive. Our Taxi accident lawyers in Oyster Bay will prepare a claim that anticipates their defenses and addresses them with strong evidence.
Proving Fault and Preserving Evidence
Proving liability requires solid proof. Helpful evidence can include dashcam or surveillance footage, black box data, 911 audio, and taxi dispatch logs. We send preservation letters early to keep this material from being destroyed.
We use witness statements and crash scene photos to lock in details about traffic signals, lane position, speed, and the point of impact. We also analyze the taxi’s maintenance history for brake, tire, or lighting issues.
When needed, our Oyster Bay taxi accident lawyers consult accident reconstruction professionals. The information they provide can connect driver conduct, like unsafe turns or failure to yield, to the crash and your injuries.
Compensation You Can Pursue Beyond Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Once you meet the serious injury threshold, you can seek damages beyond what your own PIP insurance policy offers. Economic losses include uncovered medical expenses, future treatment, devices, home services, and full wage loss. Non-economic damages cover pain, suffering, and loss of enjoyment of life.
You may also tap uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/SUM) coverage if another at-fault driver lacks sufficient insurance. Our taxi accident attorneys in Oyster Bay will review all available policies to avoid leaving money on the table.
Dealing with Insurers after a Taxi Accident
You should expect calls and detailed questions from adjusters soon after a crash. Provide basic facts, but avoid giving recorded statements until you’ve spoken with us. Small inconsistencies in your testimony can be used to hurt your case.
We’ll communicate with insurers for you, protecting you from dishonest insurance tactics and lowball settlement offers. We’ll work hard to negotiate a settlement that covers all your losses.
That said, if settlement talks stall, we file a lawsuit to keep the pressure on.
Filing Deadlines for Taxi Accident Lawsuits in Oyster Bay, NY
Most New York personal injury claims carry a three-year statute of limitations from the crash date. Wrongful death claims generally have a two-year limit. Getting started on your case soon helps us meet these deadlines and allows us to gather evidence before it goes missing.
Failing to file your lawsuit on time will stop you from getting the damages you need to support your recovery and your future. If you hire our Oyster Bay taxi accident attorneys soon, we’ll have the time we need to meet all the deadlines and requirements that apply to your case.
